About

Welcome to our time machine! World of Jazz, an initiative of broadcaster AVROTROS, brings the greatest jazz musicians together. The first jazzconcert recorded and broadcast by AVRO radio was Duke Ellington as far back as 1933. Later, the Jazz At The Philharmonic concerts, organized by Norman Granz, came to Holland’s concert halls in 1952 and were regularly broadcast on tv since 1958. They featured jazz giants like Lionel Hampton, Duke Ellington, Ella Fitzgerald and Oscar Peterson. Other concerts like the Newport Jazz Festivals and the North Sea Jazz Festivals were also recorded and broadcast by AVRO TV, as well as TROS TV recordings such as Sesjun.
